Outdoor lighting – Lamp posts and decking lights compared
Adding lighting to the exterior of your home is a fantastic way of improving its curb appeal, plus it’s essential for home security as well. At night time your back garden and driveway become so dark you can hardly see them which means you are not making the most of what you have got. Adding some key features of lighting will bring your gardens and house to life. There are many different options for outdoor lighting to choose from including bollards, wall lights, walk over lights, spot and brick lights and many more. Here we are looking at the difference of lamp posts and decking lights.
Exterior Lighting – Lamp Posts
One option of exterior lighting you can choose is lamp posts. Just as you see on the streets you can have a garden version of this for your exterior. This isn’t to say you will have huge, ugly, concrete lamp posts stuck in your garden, the lamp posts used for outdoor lighting are beautifully designed with intricate styles and elegance in cast iron. A couple of things to remember with lamp posts is that placement is key, and to not go overboard, one or two lamp posts is sufficient, depending on the size of your garden or driveway.
Decking Lights
Decking lights are very different to that of lamp posts because they fit into the wood of the decking, whereas lamp posts stand up right and are a garden feature in their own right. Decking lighting ideally needs to be installed with the decking to fit the electrical wire and the lights into the decking tidily rather than an after thought. Decking lights are great for adding some soft accent lighting to the floor which gives your garden and outdoor space a sense of warmth and atmosphere. This kind of lighting is modern and contemporary opposed to lamp posts which look more traditional.
