There are many of different types of lighting to choose from including from the main set categories laid out by lighting shops, or from looking in show rooms, or by these three main areas including general lighting, task lights, and accent lights.
Different Types of Lighting
When it comes to lighting there are many different types you can choose from. It depends which way you want to go about choosing your lighting as to what is on offer. For example you can look around online and in lighting stores and choose from there set categories such as ceiling lights, wall lights, garden lights, spotlights etc, or you can look in store at the show rooms and shop for the lights depending on what room of the house you are buying for. If you are buying bathroom lights you can look in the bathroom show room and check out all the different types of lighting that is available and choose your favourite, similarly to living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms. The show room method of shopping is great because you get to see what the lighting looks like already set up in the room.
There is another way of searching for your lighting which may suit you a little more than the other two. You can search for the lighting based on three main areas of the room, these include general lighting, task lighting and accent lighting. General lighting is the main source of lighting in the room and so this could be a main chandelier in the centre, spotlights covering the ceiling, or a 2 or 3 low hanging pendant lights for example. Which ever you choose the general lighting heading is what creates most if the light within the room. The task lights are as the name suggests for specific tasks. A good example of this is to have a lamp in the corner of the living room next to the sofa where you like to read at night. This is task specific because it is for when you read. The best way of knowing what task lights you need is to consider the room in question and think about what you use it for and what you do in that room, if you throw a lot of dinner parties in your dinning room then buy lighting that extenuates to that task. The third type of lighting is accent lighting. This is lighting that highlights a particular object within a room that you want on display, this could be a sculpture of some sort, a piece of art, or the wall of the family portraits and pictures.
Lighting the office is a little different to most rooms in the house because it is essentially task lighting that is required but it is good to add some warmth and character as well, here is a look at some tips to lighting your office.
